In 1640-1641, the Haarlem painter Johannes Verspronck (1600-1662) painted portraits of a young girl and her parents. The three remained together for a long time, but eventually the portraits of the parents ended up in the Rijksmuseum Twenthe and the portrait of the girl in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. There, the ‘girl in blue’, as she is affectionately known, became a public favourite. But who exactly is she? Together with Professor Frans Grijzenhout, known from the TV programme Kunstraadsels, the Frans Hals Museum takes visitors on a quest to discover the girl's identity.
