Ultra-modern
In the autumn of 2027, the Frans Hals Museum will put artist Else Berg (1877-1942) in the spotlight. The focus will be on her many travels, which inspired her to incorporate new themes, colours and forms into her work.
Berg grew up as a Jewish woman in what was then Prussia, now Poland, and studied art in Berlin. She then moved to Paris, where she became captivated by the revolutionary new art being created there. When she settled in Amsterdam, she made a name for herself as one of the most innovative artists of her time. The exhibition highlights her role as one of the ultra-moderns, alongside well-known colleagues such as Leo Gestel, Jan Sluijters and Charley Toorop.
