Frans Corpeleijn receives the Medal of Merit of the City of Haarlem
Friday 19 April 2024
Mayor Jos Wienen awarded Frans Corpeleijn the Penning van Verdienste (Medal of Merit) of the City of Haarlem upon his retirement as chair of the Frans Hals Museum supervisory board. The medal is a token of appreciation for his unremunerated long-standing commitment to the Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem’s museum of fine arts.
Mayor Jos Wienen praised Frans Corpeleijn’s exceptional commitment to the Frans Hals Museum and the culture of Haarlem. He was honoured for his unwavering efforts to advance the Frans Hals Museum in his role of chair of the supervisory board for 10 years. A sought-after sounding board for the museum directors, he also gave them the space they needed to operate. Even before he became chair of the supervisory board in 2009, Frans Corpeleijn was chair of the Frans Hals Museum advisory board. He also made a significant contribution to the museum in that role. Marie Hélène Cornips will succeed Frans Corpeleijn as chair of the Frans Hals Museum supervisory board.
Making sure exhibitions took place
Frans Corpeleijn is also the driving force behind Beminnaers, a group of private individuals that generously provides financial support. Various exhibitions, such as the Maarten van Heemskerck exhibition opening on 28 September 2024, have been partially funded by these private donors. In addition to the Penning van Verdienste medal of the City of Haarlem, Frans Corpeleijn also received the Frans Hals Museum Medal and honorary membership of Beminnaers, presented to him by the museum director, Lidewij de Koekkoek.
