Floris van Dijck was one of the first to establish a new genre in art in Haarlem around 1610: still-life depictions of food on a table. He often chose a high vantage point, so he could clearly show each of the elements. Like the apples in the Chinese porcelain dish, the grapes and nuts, the knife and the bread.
