American photographer Nan Goldin captured four couples in their most intimate moments, showing Clemens and Jens, Joana and Aurele, Simon and Jessica, Valerie and Bruno making love, kissing and laughing together. Goldin reveals their personalities and their mutual bond. In this work comprising 245 slides, Goldin’s focus is not individuals, but people who are intimately connected with each other. 'Heartbeat' is a portrait of love.

Goldin often uses her photographs in installations with music. The soundtrack for 'Heartbeat' was compiled by John Tavener and performed by Björk.
