About the artwork

Fifteen Black women and women of colour, from all over the world and from different periods: ancient antiquity to the present day. Heroes who were often excluded from power. In this artwork patricia kaersenhout gives them a prominent position in the timeline of history, art history and the museum world. “The work I make is never to glorify myself”, kaersenhout says. “I see myself as a medium serving a cause, by which I mean that it is important to draw the public’s attention to histories that have been swept away, by means of art. In this way, I hope to help define a more complete and more honest picture of other than Western histories.”
This work is based on Judy Chicago’s iconic The Dinner Party (1974-1979), regarded as one of the most important feminist works of art, which gives 39 women from history a seat at the table.
